The PC research group utilizes chemistry as a tool for solving biological problems. The multidisciplinary approach currently used in our lab is the key to answer several intricate and challenging biological questions in the area of molecular evolution, protein biosynthesis, and molecular biology. The major research project in PC lab concerns a group of enzymes called aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (AARSs).
Our research interests also extend toward the field of bioconjugate chemistry. Using the new chemical approach, new bioconjugate molecules with different chemical properties are designed and synthesized. These molecules can be used as new chemical linkers for different types of biomolecules including proteins, carbohydrates, DNA, and RNA.
Bioorganic Chemistry
Indirect tRNA Aminoacylation in the Human Pathogen Helicobacter Pylori
The ultimate goal of this project is to better understand the indirect aminoacylation pathway used by Helicobacter pylori. The information obtained from our study will pave the new road for the discovery of a new antibiotic drug with novel mechanism of action.

Physical Organic Chemistry
Regioselectivity of the Larock Heteroannulation Reaction
Our lab is particularly interested in the electronic effect on the regioselectivity of the Larock Heteroannulation. We have demonstrated, experimentally and computationally, that the resulting indole product is formed with greater electron density carbon at the 2-position.
